I am a seasonal human, I feel the change of the seasons in me. Does that sound weird? Maybe it is because I grew up in a European country with 4 distinct seasons and all the specifics of them. The raspberries were only in summer, plums in autumn and in winter we would eat preserves and apples and winter veggies.

Here in Oman, I cannot experience the change of nature in autumn and I really love autumn, morning with frost and mist, time to snuggle with hot drinks, but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel it within me.

Thanks to nature, summer is almost over, I already made a plum pie and dream of pumpkins!

Snuggling with a film that happens in autumn or has some specifics in it related to autumn can help to give “the feeling”, get into the mood, especially when where you live the weather doesn’t change that much…

  1. Frozen II This had to be the first one on the list since Ana told me so many times, this is an autumn film! Of course, it is! If you pay attention to the scenery and the leaves you will understand. Plus! For a sequel, it is such a great one!
  2. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a great film no matter what and when is set. Based on Roald Dahl’s book, it is a masterpiece and it’s a Wes Anderson film so the colour palette it is quite special, full of warmth, oranges and yellows, wrap you and make you feel the season.
  3. SpiderWick Chronicles is a fantasy film full of magical creatures! It all happens in one day, one autumn day on the Spiderwick estate. Even as an adult I quite liked it.
  4. Fly Away Home, a lesser known gem, I believe is for kids who especially like films with animals. This is with birds…more precisely with …geese. It is about a girl that bonds with these orphan birds and teaches them to fly all in a very autumnal landscape, a beautiful fable that should be watched by children.
  5. Penelope is another fantasy piece with cozy autumn vibes and a beautiful story that I believe we all have something to learn from…Anything that Christina Ricci in is must have also some Hallo’een traits, this film is somewhere in the middle, a witch, a curse, a modern day girl trying to navigate this society that puts so much price on appearance.
  6. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone doesn’t need any introduction, I think. It is a very back to school feeling with all the preparations even in the magical world. Very well made, amazing landscapes, and Halloween is part of it.
  7. The House with a Clock in its Walls a full of mystery story with an amazing spooky house and eerie moments makes me think of November. The main character, the boy discovered his uncle s a Warlock and he enters a wonderful magical world and that is where trouble comes…we just watched it this year, I knew about it but a few years ago Ana found it scary…I wouldn’t say it is but maybe it is not for small children.
  8. ET is another classical, one of our favourite films, the film Ana cried the most. It is beautiful, just simply beautiful and I hope all kids watched this. And obviously it happens in autumn.
  9. October Sky I believe it can be on the list but for older kids, the story is about two boys on the verge of deciding their future path and how that collides with the wishes of their parents.
  10. The Goonies Yes another old film, did we mentions we like old films? Ana was raised to appreciate them and see how life for kids were 20, 30 years ago. The Goonies is about friendship and adventure and the most amazing part is how a bunch of kids actors made is so authentic.

I had a long inner debate with myself if I should include movies like Casper, Halloweentown, The Adams Family and so on that have more of a Halloween feeling and I decided to do a separate article about them because they feel different but they still go into the autumn batch but for us is quite a distinction.
